Lost $25 Found $25

24 08 2007

We’re going to be having some guests in and out of our house during September, so I wanted to get a good clean and scrub in before hand.

I was tiding the guest bedroom (aka my closet) on Wednesday night and I found a 25$ Amazon gift certificate I’d been looking for for AGES!!!  Sadly the expiry date was 2 days earlier than when I found it :(

As I continued to clean, bummed out a bit over my Amazon gift card, I found a gift card I didn’t know I had for one of my fave clothing stores!  And the expiry date was today!

So I got some new threads!

. . . .and now I’m happy :)

Dead Tree

21 08 2007

Colin and I decided that the dead tree at the front of our house simply had to go.

The roots were pushing aganist the foundation of our house.

We’ll plant two smaller shrubs in its place.

The Biggest Weed Ever

20 08 2007

Well, I have a secret to admit.

As those that follow joeymoggie know, I worked very hard to have a lovely front garden. My back garden, however, is another story.

Please behold the most massive weed I’ve ever seen in my life! And I’ve grown it! Its more (yes more) than 9 feet tall.

I can’t decide if I should be proud or very very ashamed!

In Braintree of All Places

19 07 2007

A local fire department in Mass. did a routine training exercise this past week on what they believe was a vacant house, turns out they broke windows and cut holes into the wrong house.  How pissed would you be if that was your house??

Location of this tale? “Braintree” of all places. . .  .

Garden Version 2.0

15 05 2007

Recently I posted some picture of my pre-planted garden here, this past weekend I planed some new plants. I bought all plants that could live in full sun (the front of our house gets sun exposure all day) and drier soil. The bulbs and other plants that were already here when we moved in were in a yellow and purple pallet, so we’ve kept that theme.

We also decided to try to only plant perennials, hopfully next year we’ll only have to weed the garden and stick in a few pansies (my favourite flower, no garden is complete without them IMO)

Here is Garden Version 2.0, please stay tuned for version 3 “growing”

Using Your Lightsaber Around the Home

11 05 2007

Check out this very informative post on HOW STUFF WORKS about everyday & new uses for your lightsaber.

My personal favorite is surely cutting bagels. . . .

The big advantage of using a lightsaber, of course, is that you can both cut and toast the bagel in one stroke.

GI Joe

7 05 2007

Friday was a special day for Colin.  His ‘new’ GI Joe Command Center arrived.  As you can see by this photo below, its been a long time since Colin owned a GI Joe Command Center.  (Paul is on the left, Colin on the right).
Since today is Paul’s birthday, I thought it would be cute to use a baby picture of him in my birthday blog greeting, and low and behold I find this gem, what perfect timing!!!!

I really wanted Colin to pose with his new GI Joe Command Center, so you could see a ‘before’ and ‘after’ – but he would have none of it.

Recently Colin has taken to collecting all the old GI Joe action figures from his youth (circa 1983-1984).  He has got himself a pretty respectable collection in a short period of time.

The GI Joe Command Center is by far the largest purchase so far.

Hopefully we’re going to head up to the flea market in Hudson next weekend, apparently they have a great toy bazar with lots of GI Joes (or so we’ve been told).

I’m on the look out for some new chairs for the kitchen myself.

So, if you got some old GI Joes kicking about your place, and you’d like to secure them a new home – please let me know.

Garden Version 1

6 05 2007

I was out in the garden today, I put some soil out – ready to plant flowers next weekend.

Here are some pictures of what is already growing. . . .

Some teeny tiny Violets

Some large and lushious White Tulips

I have no idea what this plant is, its something planted last year, that I didn’t kill.  Be impressed!!!!  When I saw it at the nursury It reminded me of a pot plant, which amused me, therefore I had to have it.

These technically aren’t growing. . . . .  .but anyways, here are two of the ‘tiki idols’ we got for our garden.  They’ve been scaring the bloody mourning doves off though, which is a good thing.

You Catch More Flies With. . . .

5 05 2007

Today Colin and I went to Reno Depot to look at lawn mowers. We need a new one.

I went to check out the plant section, and I came across a small little lone plant that looked very interesting.

I picked it up to look at the tag, it was a Venus Fly Trap. It was 4 dollars, so I had to have it.

I’ve been reading up on Venus Fly Traps, they are called ‘carnivorous’ or sometimes called insectivorous plants. They digest bugs. . . takes approximatly 10 days for the process.

Anyways. . . I’m going to take it to work, hopefully it will look menacing enough to get people to stay away from my desk. ;)

A Blissful Weekend of Nothingness

29 04 2007

We did nothing.  All Weekend.  And it was glorious.

Instead of a weekend slaving outdoors fixing the garden in a pre May 2/4 weekend gafaw – we stayed indoors put on the air conditioning unit and made meal after meal of KD mac & cheese.

Pajamas the uniform of the weekend, and ripped movies the entertainment.

Long lie ins, short naps and early to beds.

Some times you just need a referesher weekend.   I could have used another day to sloth about though.

Only 6 more sleeps till we can do it again . . . .

Floored

21 04 2007

Mr and Mrs Graham came up yesterday for the weekend, (I’ll blog more about their visit in the coming days)

Mr Graham installed some new flooring in our kitchen.   Its simply fabulous, goes really well with the house.

They arrived just after 12noon, and had the old floor ripped up, floor prepared and the vinyl installed before 4pm on Friday night.

So, After Almost a Week

18 04 2007

My in laws are coming this weekend for a visit, we’ve been cleaning in all those spots that perhaps you don’t clean often (like the tops of doors)

 And I’ve come to a conclusion. . .  .

I on the other hand – don’t mind looking for things :)

April Showers Brings May Flowers ::: Winter Snow Redux

12 04 2007

Montreal got hit with another blast of winter.

I had started an entry earlier that I was going to post tonight when I got home about my purple crocuses starting to bloom.  I wanted to get a picture to post, and do a side by side from the earlier lightly snow covered buds I blogged about earlier here.

The drive home was dreadful, its like as soon as it melts (and subsequently comes back) everyone forgets how to drive in the snow.  Tons of accidents, very slow roads.

I’m grumpy tonight.

Here are the pictures of flowers. . . . .flowers make me happier, even if they are covered in snow.
