Graveyard Shift

9 09 2007

Thankfully since strikes began in May, the 130 grounds workers of Notre Dame Cemetary in Montreal are back to work this week.  They will be working a 4 day work week, with continued striking on Fridays until a resolution can be hatched.

The grass and grounds have not been cut or maintained since the strike began in May.

More than 500 loved ones passed on are awaiting burial to their final resting place, currently being held in cold storage.

My thoughts go out to the families of the dead. . . .

Remembrances

31 08 2007

Memorial Day

Mary McHugh visited the grave of her fiancé, Sgt. James J. Regan, who was killed in Iraq in February. He is buried in the new Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery for those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Whats in a Colour ::: What Awarness Ribbon should Virginia Tech Use?

19 04 2007

In light of the tragic event that took place this week in Virginia I suggested here that we should wear white ribbons to show love and compassion to the victims, white meaning peace, and victims of terrorism.

I’ve noticed on all the Facebook groups and other online places of mourning people have been using the black ribbon – which is actually mourning (but also gang violence)

In a time of such sorrow, sadness and uncertainity on our own shores, shouldn’t we be trying to look to the positive, look to rebuild. . . .  . .

What colour ribbon should Virginia Tech use?

Wear a White Ribbon for Virginia Tech Massacre Victims

17 04 2007

As a Canadian, and now someone who lives in Montreal – The White Ribbon Campaign is something we are all aware of, and take part in every year. The white ribbon campaign is specifically Men Againist Violence Aganist Woman.

This campaign was started in 1991 after the school masscare at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.  A lone gunman, Marc Lepine,  killed 14 woman before killing himself on December 6th, 1989.

Monday Morning Cheesy Sentimentality “Keep Your Fork”

2 04 2007

I get a ton of cheesy emails, but once in a while I actually read one . . . .Here is one I actually read, and forwarded onto a few people I knew would enjoy it.
